What makes me a good mentor?
I am passionate about the startup process and I love talking about business ideas and strategy. I have gone through the process of building and selling a business and have been an advisor to several startup companies. I have also advised over 300 companies on website and web marketing strategies.

Industries:
My experience is broad and deep. I have worked with many companies in many industries including the food industry, real estate, sports, manufacturing, professional services, insurance, pharmaceutical, and retail.

Approach:
I am a big fan of testing assumptions early and pivoting or moving on. I follow Lean Startup techniques and spend a lot of time creating ways to test a business model at each step of the way.

Elizabeth A. Galletta – Legal Counsel Mentor

What makes me a good mentor?
I am a curious person who loves to learn new things and I became an attorney to meet people and learn about their ideas and to help bring their visions to life. I have a genuine interest in helping people figure out what they need to do to protect their inventions and brands.

Industries:
I have been an attorney for over 15 years and have helped businesses in a variety of industries protect and monetize their inventions and brands. I have worked with large manufacturing companies, specialty chemical companies, and companies that manufacture and sell personal care products. I have also worked with start-up companies in the biotech arena as well as start-ups that focus on professional services and food/beverage products.

Approach:
I like to learn about the goals and overall vision of my clients. I want to understand what my clients want to be doing with their inventions, brands and businesses over the short term and in the future. I enjoy getting to know my clients as people.

Makaela Kingsley – Social Entrepreneurship Mentor

Social and environmental impact, human-centered design, social enterprise, collective action

What makes me a good mentor?
I study local and global problems, learn what’s already being done to tackle them, and seek opportunities for innovation that can lead to impact. I can help motivated problem-solvers from the nonprofit, for-profit, and public sectors leverage their personal and professional experiences to use entrepreneurship for the greater good. Industries:
I started my career in the nonprofit sector, doing fundraising and public relations for Planned Parenthood, and I have served on a variety of nonprofit boards during the past 20 years. Since 2013, I have advised student entrepreneurs as director of Wesleyan University’s Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship. I have an in-depth understanding of higher education and lots of exposure to large and small social enterprises.

Approach:
I’m all about relationships. I like to get to know what makes entrepreneurs tick so I can help them tell compelling stories and work in a way that syncs with their personal strengths and core values. I try to build ecosystems, promote collective impact, and help people expand their networks.
